Murphy & King Shareholder Kathleen R. Cruickshank Recognized in 2021 Best Lawyers “Women in the Law” Business Edition

Murphy & King, P.C. announced today that Shareholder Kathleen (Kate) R. Cruickshank will be recognized in the 2021 Best Lawyers® “Women in the Law” Business Edition for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/ Insolvency and Reorganization Law.

The upcoming “Women in the Law” Business Edition will feature female attorneys recognized in the U.S across all practice areas. Recognition in Best Lawyers in America is based on peer review. The methodology captures the opinion of leading lawyers on the professional abilities of their colleagues in a variety of legal practice areas.  The 2021 edition will be released in June.

Ms. Cruickshank focuses her practice on representing debtors, trustees and creditors in complex Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 cases and representing debtors in non-bankruptcy workouts. Ms. Cruickshank appears regularly in the United States Bankruptcy Court, represents plaintiffs and defendants in litigation arising in bankruptcy proceedings, and has represented bankruptcy trustees before the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the Alcoholic Beverages and Control Commission.

Ms. Cruickshank was formerly an attorney with the Office of the United States Trustee, United States Department of Justice for the Districts of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, and was the Assistant United States Trustee in the San Jose Office of the United States Trustee for the Northern District of California. Prior to her 10 years of service with the United States Department of Justice, Ms. Cruickshank represented debtors and creditors in bankruptcy matters. Ms. Cruickshank also served as a law clerk for the United States Trustee for the District of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

Ms. Cruickshank is a Section Co-chair of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the Boston Bar Association (BBA), and previously served as a co-chair of the Education Committee of the Section which has organized several educational events for the BBA over the past few years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she helped develop virtual educational events around bankruptcy and was also named to the BBA Bankruptcy Section’s newly formed COVID-19 Standing Committee. In 2020, Ms. Cruickshank was recognized by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as one of the “Top Women of Law.”
